School Food Pantry Program

Food is essential for children to learn, grow, and thrive, yet many families in York Region struggle to access sufficient nutritious food for healthy balanced meals. Children represent nearly 30% of the food-insecure people served by the Food Bank of York Region (FBYR). Our food bank launched its School Food Pantry Program in 2022 to provide food-insecure students and their households with nutritious food directly at school. With support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, FBYR is expanding the program over the next three years from 13 schools to serve 52 schools, prioritizing communities where food insecurity is highest. Support Food Access for Kids

Our School Food Pantry Program is open to elementary and secondary schools across York Region, with focus on high-priority postal codes where the need for food assistance is greatest. This program is not affiliated with or funded by provincial school nutrition programs.

Help us to ensure that children have access to the food they need to play, to learn, to grow, and to thrive!
