Nutritious meals are essential for children to thrive. But not all children have access to healthy balanced meals. Some children have to skip meals because there isn’t enough food in the home to put on the table. Sadly, they are likely to have a harder time concentrating at school and their overall well-being can be affected. Twenty-five percent of the food-insecure people served by our food bank are children.
To help meet the need, the Food Bank of York Region (FBYR) launched its School Food Pantry Program in 2022. This program provides food-insecure students and their households access to food throughout the school year. Click here for schools that we currently serve.
Our School Food Pantry Program is open to all elementary and secondary schools in York Region, with focus on high priority postal codes where food insecurity is highest. This program is not affiliated with or funded by provincial nutrition programs.
Help us to continue feeding vulnerable children to ensure they have the energy to play, to learn, to grow, and the opportunity to thrive!
