People in our community struggle daily with food insecurity, and 33% of the people serviced are children. Seniors on dwindling incomes, low income families, and people with disabilities need our support. With your help, we can bridge the gap to overcome hunger in our region. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians are in need of emergency food support as many Canadians lose their jobs and food programs through schools and community centers are suspended due to social distancing. Meanwhile, food banks and other charities are dealing with chronic food shortages and new challenges imposed by social distancing. Food banks such as the Food Bank of York Region (FBYR) are dedicated to alleviating food insecurity & hunger in York region, a place Palak and I have called home for many years. FBYR serves as the official collection and distribution hub for the region, providing perishable and non-perishable food to food pantries, shelters, social service agencies and non-profit housing initiatives.
