2023 Report on Food Insecurity

Canda’s major food bank associations have been sounding the alarm regarding the unprecedented rise in food insecurity in 2022 and 2023. Food Bank usage saw a significant increase in 2023—a trend which has continued into 2024.

The Food Bank of York Region’s report on food insecurity provides an analysis on the state of food insecurity in in 2023 based on numerous sources and surveys. The spike in costs for food and rent placed immense pressure on low-income and working poor households, as well as people dependent on social assistance, resulting in a rise in food insecurity in York Region.
